eBay

In light of recent questions and concerns from the Associate field, USANA would like to reaffirm its commitment to direct selling as its channel of product distribution. USANA understands that Associates engaging in direct selling are successful and profitable when each Associate is given a fair opportunity to sell and promote the company’s product in approved establishments and using approved methods. Selling USANA product on any internet auction site, especially eBay, is not approved, and causes unfair competition. It is directly against USANA’s mission statement and purpose, and violators of this policy will be severely sanctioned, up to and including the termination of their Associate contract.

USANA’s Compliance Department also reaffirms its commitment to monitoring eBay and other auction sites to ensure total compliance. Recently, USANA’s Compliance Department discovered and successfully stopped the largest abuser of this policy – “dropstopfrank.” We will continue to monitor all other online sellers and will find all those who disregard USANA’s Policies & Procedures by offering USANA’s high-quality nutritional products via unapproved online retail/auction sites. As a reminder, it is also a violation to participate in any scheme to provide USANA products to a third party for sale on eBay or any other website.

If you have any information that may lead to the identification of any other online seller, please contact the Compliance Department.

At USANA, Quality is King

There’s that old adage, “No news is good news.” And if you’ve been paying attention to reports in the media about nutritional supplements, you may get the feeling that all news is bad news. USANA & Linus Pauling Institute: A Valuable Partnership

USANA & Linus Pauling Institute: A Valuable
                                                 Partnership

Brian Dixon
Editor's Note: USANA is proud to align itself with world-class doctors, athletes, and even research institutions, all of which understand the value of maintaining optimal health. One of USANA's long-standing partnerships is with Linus Pauling Institute (LPI) at Oregon State University.

The following post is courtesy of USANA Senior Scientist Brian Dixon, Ph.D., who graduated from Oregon State and conducted graduate work at LPI.

USANA has had a long-standing relationship with the Linus Pauling Institute, an organization that is committed to "micronutrient research for optimum health." It is something I’m very proud of both personally and professionally. I graduated from Oregon State University and conducted my graduate work in laboratory research under the mentorship of Dr. Tory Hagen.

Professor Hagen’s research focuses on the underlying biochemical changes that occur in our cells during the aging process. I stayed on to do a post-doc in clinical gerontology investigating whether the elderly absorb nutrients, specifically lipoic acid, differently than their younger counterparts. This study was funded by USANA and is how I met Dr. Mark Brown, Dr. John Cuomo, and Dr. Tim Wood. USANA recruited me away from the LPI in January 2009.

USANA's Adam Dern and LPI's Meltem Musa
The Linus Pauling Institute's mission is to:
  • Determine the function and role of vitamins and essential minerals (micronutrients) and chemicals from plants (phytochemicals) in promoting optimum health and preventing or treating disease
  • Determine the role of oxidative stress and inflammation in human health and disease, and the protective effects of dietary factors with antioxidant or anti-inflammatory properties
  • Help people everywhere achieve a healthy and productive life, full of vitality, with minimal suffering, and free of cancer and other debilitating diseases
Clearly you can see why this partnership is a natural fit for USANA!

A Mutually Beneficial Relationship
It’s great to be able and pick up the phone and ask the various principal investigators questions regarding the latest nutritional research.

As a testament to the success of our partnership, USANA funding has supported graduate and undergraduate research, published nine scientific, peer-reviewed journal articles, and presented 13 scientific studies at leading national and international conferences on topics such as free radicals, antioxidants, detoxification, nutrition, cancer, inflammation, biology, aging, sports medicine, diet and optimum health.

A complete list of USANA-funded studies conducted at the Linus Pauling Institute can be found on USANA.com.

A recent study completed on a healthy lifestyle program in elementary school-aged children was just featured in the LPI Newsletter. The most surprising result for me was that in the relatively educated, affluent student population in Corvallis, Oregon, they found that most children did not get the recommended amounts of vitamins A and E, calcium, and magnesium from their diet, and many also did not get enough vitamin K, iron, and zinc. The complete details can be found on the LPI site.

Dr. John Cuomo
Finding Time to Play
However, it’s not all work and no play, as Dr. Cuomo and I learned after our recent visit to the Linus Pauling Institute.

After we finished meeting with various principal investigators discussing progress on our ongoing studies, as well as next year’s studies, we and some of the Linus Pauling Institute faculty and staff got a personal tour of the currently under construction Linus Pauling Science Center — a state-of-the-art research center that will be the Linus Pauling Institute’s new home this coming August.

The next day we had the opportunity to be the special guests of Dr. Balz Frei, the Director of the Institute, his lovely wife Simone Frei, LPI Program Coordinator, and Michele Erickson, LPI Director of Development, to take in the last football game of the year — “The Civil War” — between Oregon and Oregon State.

But don’t let all the “play” fool you. USANA is fully committed to supporting cutting-edge nutritional research and development whether in studies conducted by top scientists in our on-site laboratories, consulting regularly with our Scientific Advisory Council, or findings from the many research partnerships we have across the globe and especially the Linus Pauling Institute.

Product Price Changes for 2011

Product Price Changes for 2011

Price changes are coming to some of our products in 2011. Some prices are increasing, some are decreasing, and some products are going away for good. Check out your favorite products below to see what price changes may be coming in the New Year, and read our tips on how to explain the reasoning behind these changes to your customers.

Nutrimeal™
Prices for Wild Strawberry, Dutch Chocolate, and French Vanilla Nutrimeal will each increase from $24.95 to $25.25. That’s only 30 cents per bag. Sales Volume Points (SVP) will remain at 20 points.

Chocolate Whey Nutrimeal™
The price of Chocolate Whey Nutrimeal will decrease from $33.50 to $27.50, with 22 SVP per bag.

Procosa® II
Due to a steep demand and worldwide shortage of turmeric extract, Procosa II will increase from $23.99 to $27.50, 22 SVP.

Discontinued Products
In 2011, USANA will phase out production of SoyaMax™ and OptOmega®. These products will only be available while supplies last, so order now.

How do I explain these price changes to my customers?

Reassure your customers that there are very good reasons for these changes. The price increases to Procosa II and our Nutrimeal products are due to a rise in the cost of ingredients. While some companies may settle for lesser quality ingredients, USANA is committed to using only the purest and most effective ingredients.

Dr. Wentz is a long-time believer in the benefits of fish and flax seed oils, however, high-quality flax seed is readily available in the market today. Although we will no longer be manufacturing OptOmega, BiOmega™ is still an excellent source of beneficial omega-3 fatty acids.

For those concerned about the loss of SoyaMax, French Vanilla Nutrimeal is an excellent source of soy protein, containing 15 grams per serving.
